Alex Galchenyuk, a former Coyotes forward, was waived following his arrest in Scottsdale

On Thursday, the Arizona Coyotes announced they had placed Alex Galchenyuk, a veteran forward, on waivers.

This decision comes just 12 days after Galchenyuk agreed to a one-year contract with the Western Conference club. The purpose of placing him on waivers is to terminate his agreement.

According to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski, the Coyotes have recently become aware of an “off-ice situation” involving Galchenyuk that was previously unknown to the team.

The NHLPA is looking over the ruling for Galchenyuk right now.

The Scottsdale Police Department has confirmed that Alex Galchenyuk, a former forward for the Arizona Coyotes, is facing charges resulting from an arrest on July 9.

Among these charges are hit-and-run on private property, disorderly conduct, failure to follow, resisting arrest, and making threats or intimidating others.

Due to the incident, the Coyotes decided to waive Galchenyuk only 12 days after signing him to a contract.

According to The Athletic’s Katie Strang, he was arrested Sunday evening. He was released the next day on his recognizance. He was arraigned on Monday.

Before his brief time with Arizona this offseason, the center had been with the Coyotes twice. He first went to the desert in the 2018-19 season, playing 72 games, and returned in the 2021-22 season, playing 60 games.

Galchenyuk had his most successful season as a Coyote during his first campaign in Arizona, where he recorded 19 goals, 22 assists, and 41 points.

Additionally, he accumulated 34 penalty minutes throughout the season.

He was a member of the Colorado Avalanche last season and played in 11 games. He recorded only four penalty minutes during that time and had eight shots on goal.

The Coyotes’ latest move this offseason is placing Galchenyuk on unconditional waivers.

The team signed Travis Dermott to a one-year, two-way contract a day earlier. The Coyotes have made several additions to their team.

Through free agency, they have acquired Travis Barron, Alex Kerfoot, Jason Zucker, Cameron Crotty, and Matt Villalta. Additionally, they have traded for defenseman Sean Durzi.

In addition, Arizona welcomed back forward Nick Bjugstad and defenseman Troy Stecher.
