Lando Norris -facts, net worth, career, records, and wife

Lando Norris is a racing driver competing in Formula One with McLaren. He races under the British flag and has both Belgian and British nationality.

In 2015, he emerged as the champion of the MSA Formula Championship. In 2016, he achieved remarkable victories in the Toyota Racing Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, and Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.

Lando Norris Early Life

Racetracks know Lando Norris. Born on November 13, 1999, to retired English pensions manager Adam Norris and his Belgian wife Cisca, this Formula One driver is an ardent racer—the second of four children.

He won his first national contest at seven years old. He won the 2013 KF-Junior CIK FIA European Championship, International Super Cup, and WSK Euro Series.

The following year, he became the youngest karting world champion in the CIK-FIA KF World Championship with Ricky Flynn Motorsport.

In his debut in the 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship, he achieved an impressive third-place finish and secured victory in four races. Also, he emerged as the winner of the Rookie Cup.

In the three years that followed, Norris won almost 30 races, 20 pole positions, and five championships, including the 2017 European Formula 3 Championship, the New Zealand Grand Prix, the Eurocup, and the Northern European Cup.

He attracted McLaren Racing Limited’s attention. The company signed him as a junior driver in 2017. Later that year, he became the official test and reserve driver for the 2018 season, debuting at the Belgian Grand Prix with a 26-lap record.

In 2019, he debuted in Formula One with McLaren, finishing 12th in the Formula One World Championship with Carlos Sainz Jr. He rebounded at the Bahrain Grand Prix, finishing sixth.

Norris set the quickest lap of the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix and became Formula One’s third-youngest podium finisher.

Norris won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 (2016), Toyota Racing Series (2016), FIA F3 European Championship (2017), Autosport National Driver of the Year (2017), and Autosport British Competition Driver of the Year (2019–2021).

Despite tonsillitis, he extended his McLaren contract for three years in 2022. He finished sixth in the Monaco Grand Prix with the quickest lap.

Lando Norris Early Career

Norris split 2018 between F2 and McLaren’s test and reserve driver duties.

On 3 September 2018, Norris joined Carlos Sainz at McLaren for the 2019 season.

In his maiden race, Norris qualified 8th but finished 12th without points. Norris finished P6 in Bahrain in the next round, showing his genuine pace.

Teammate Sainz had the worst luck early in the season, and Norris took over.

He retired from the Chinese Grand Prix after first-lap contact, then two races later, he crashed into Lance Stroll in Spain.

Norris rebounded with P8 in Azerbaijan, but a suspension failure in Canada robbed him of a good points finish.

After hydraulic issues dropped him to P10 in France, he equaled his career-best finish with P6 in Austria.

The German GP gave midfield drivers like Norris a chance to surprise.

After starting from the bottom of the grid due to an engine penalty, Norris struggled in the unpredictable weather.

He retired from the race due to engine issues. Thus, it was reasonable that he thought he missed a significant chance.

Daniil Kvyat did a podium with Toro Rosso.

Belgium was crueler. Norris rode a great race and was headed for a career-best P5 finish.

That was until a power issue on the last lap, and to make matters worse, he finished P11, the first non-point position.

Norris finished P5 in Japan after scoring in Italy, Singapore, and Russia.

After Alex Albon smashed into his MCL34, it abandoned him again, leaving Norris with floor damage and a P11 finish.

In Mexico, a failed pit stop cost Norris P7. Still, he recovered to finish the season with three more points in the USA, Brazil, and Abu Dhabi.

Norris finished the season with 49 points, placing him 11th in the Drivers’ Championship, and he signed a new contract in July for 2020 and beyond.

Norris defeated Sainz 11-10 in 2019 qualifying.

Norris and Sainz were remarkably closer in 2020, McLaren’s strongest season.

Despite only 17 races owing to the global epidemic, Norris’ seasonal points count rose from 49 to 97.

At the opening Austrian Grand Prix, Norris earned the nickname “Last Lap Lando” after a brilliant final circuit of the Red Bull Ring put him close enough to the penalized Lewis Hamilton to steal P3 from the World Champion.

The following Sunday, Norris passed three competitors on the final lap to move up from ninth to fifth.

In 2020, Norris only failed to finish a race once, when his engine failed in the Eifel Grand Prix during his worst run. He also missed the points in Russia and Portugal due to racing mishaps that were not his fault.

Except for race three in Hungary, he scored 13 times in 17 races, including P4 places in Italy and Bahrain and three P5 finishes.

In Abu Dhabi, his P6 and Sainz’s P6 helped McLaren finish ahead of Racing Point and take third place in the Constructors’ World Championship.

Norris scored 97 points, Sainz 105, but the Briton won qualifying 9-8 before Sainz joined Ferrari.

In 2021, many anticipated Sainz’s replacement, Daniel Ricciardo, to easily beat Norris. Still, the Briton became the team leader in his most outstanding season.

He started the season with a podium at Imola after finishing P4 in Bahrain. Three rounds later, in Monaco, he again finished P3.

He finished in the top five in every race between Monaco and the summer break, including a third P3 in Austria.

He had some terrible luck in the second half of his season, although he nearly won his first F1 race twice.

In Monza, he finished second behind Ricciardo, giving McLaren their first 1-2 in 11 years.

In Sochi, he took the lead in the race after an impressive lap that earned him his first pole position. However, he later dropped the order when he remained on slick tires as the rain poured.

Norris finished P6 with 160 points and four podiums. He scored 45 more points than his teammate and comfortably led Saturday and Sunday head-to-head.

After 2021’s success, McLaren’s all-new cars failed to perform. With the MCL36, the team regressed. Norris typically ran eighth, rising or falling due to McLaren’s misfortune.

He finished 2022 with 122 points and one podium, P3 at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, pushing McLaren to improve. He resigned before the season started and will stay till 2025.

Lando Norris Facts About

1)Impressive Junior Career

Lando began racing motorcycles. After watching his brother run at the kart track, he became interested in open-wheel racing. In 2014, Lando competed in the Ginetta Junior Championship.

Carlin offered him an MSA Formula Championship ride in 2015. Lando’s first-season title impressed scouts and talent managers.

Formula 4, Formula Renault, British Formula 3, and Formula 3 European Championship followed.

2)Admired and Held Up Lewis Hamilton as a Model

The likes of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were heroes of British racing driver Lando Norris. Given that we more commonly hear names like Fangio, Senna, and even Schumi, this demonstrates just how young Lando is as a driver.

Lando has always loved Lewis, but in 2021 he startled British fans by rooting for Max Verstappen. It’s understandable that Lando and Max became close during their time as Juniors, despite the fact that it likely disturbed many people in the United Kingdom.

3)Races As Number 4

The number is one of the most prominent aspects of a driver’s image. Choosing one’s number is a relatively new development in Formula One, which may be unknown to many. However, Lando’s preferred number was already in use, so he opted for 4.

This worked out well for Lando, as he used his number as his logo. This makes him one of the most distinctive drivers currently competing.

This contributed to the development and introduction of Lando’s brand, similar to what Lewis Hamilton did in his early years at Mercedes.

4)Bromance With Carlos Sainz

In 2019, Lando began his F1 tenure with McLaren as Carlos Sainz’s teammate. Although Carlos had some F1 experience, he was new to the squad, having joined after the 2018 season after moving from Renault.

Both on and off the racetrack, the drivers’ chemistry was evident. Unlike many other driver pairings, Lando and Carlos never interfered with each other on the track.

They developed a genuine camaraderie along the way. As Carlando took over social media, this became a gold mine for the McLaren marketing division.

5)Discouraged Red Bull

While Lando has yet to secure a win in F1, he came remarkably close during the 2021 season in Russia.

What adds to the impressiveness is that he achieved this feat in a McLaren, a car that was evidently the third or fourth fastest during the weekend.

His impressive drives, like this one, helped him secure offers from massive F1 teams such as Red Bull and Mercedes.

In a manner reminiscent of his classic style, Lando made it unmistakably clear that he had no plans to depart from McLaren. Today, he signed one of the most substantial Formula 1 contracts currently on the grid.
