As NFL training camps draw near, it is again time for the league’s true insiders to share their insights.
As part of the 2023 NFL season preview, we conducted a survey that included league executives, coaches, scouts, and players.
This survey aimed to rank the top 10 players at 11 different positions, ranging from quarterback to cornerback and everything in between.
Welcome to the fourth edition of these rankings! As is customary, we have witnessed numerous players climbing up the ranks or dropping off last year’s lists.
To refresh your memory, here is a brief overview of our process: Voters provide us with their selection of the top 10 players for each position.
We then gather the results and rank the candidates based on the number of top-10 votes they receive and their composite average. Additionally, we consider numerous interviews, research, and film study with the assistance of NFL analyst Matt Bowen.
Over 80 voters submitted a ballot for at least one position, and in many instances, for all posts. We encountered multiple ties, and to resolve them, we utilized additional voting. We conducted follow-up calls with the participants who were surveyed.
Each section contains quotes and insights from the voters on each ranked player, including the honorable mentions.
The goal is to determine the current top players for the year 2023. This is neither a five-year projection nor a career achievement award. Who are the best players in the present day? Look at the comprehensive list of players at every position on Sportsbiomedia .
We will be introducing one position per day for a total of 11 days. Here is the schedule for the upcoming evaluations: –
Off-ball linebackers: July 8th
Defensive tackles: July 9th
Edge rushers: July 10th
Cornerbacks: July 11th
Safeties: July 12th
Tight ends: July 13th
Running backs: July 14th
Offensive tackles: July 15th
Guards and centers: July 16th
Quarterbacks: July 17th
Wide receivers: July 18th
Ranking safety positions is always challenging due to their stylistic differences. Safety is a position that requires careful consideration when evaluating and comparing players.
The traditional safety position is known for effectively defending against deep passes with exceptional range.
However, in recent years, there has been a rise in the popularity of solid safeties who are better equipped to play in a position closer to the line of scrimmage.
This has led to the emergence of the hybrid safety/linebacker position. Jamal Adams, Landon Collins, and other individuals exemplified this quality. They can transform into off-ball linebackers or even genuine edge rushers.
Voters typically categorize these players into tiers, which leads to 21 players receiving at least one top-10 vote.
Now, the trendy safety is like a chess piece, capable of performing various tasks and even transitioning into a nickel cornerback role if needed.
Several young players fit this description, one of whom is a top-five safety from the AFC East. Let’s examine the top securities in the game, as ranked by executives, coaches, and scouts across the NFL.
